Plug loopholes in the recruitment process, Primary school teachers urge Assam government

GUWAHATI: Highlighting various alleged loopholes in the recruitment of primary school teachers across the State on January 30, 2021, the 'Sadou Asom Betan Banchit Karmrot Prathomik Shikhak Santha' has urged the State government to plug the loopholes in the greater interest of all the teacher community in general.

Addressing the media at the Dispur Press Club on Saturday, the Santha general secretary Basanta Neog said, "Owing to various anomalies in the teacher-recruitment process, many colleagues did not get appointment even though they had the required qualifications for the posts of teachers and tutors."

Neog added, "Those having the mandatory basic training got appointment as teachers while the others who did not have the basic training got recruited as tutors. However, 44 colleagues from Sibsagar district and four others from Lakhimpur district were deprived of this opportunity even though they had already undergone the basic training course meant for teachers.

"On the other hand, 53 teachers from Sibsagar district and 54 from Lakhimpur district got appointed as tutors even though they had the 'Basic Training' certificates. Moreover, 54 colleagues of Lakhimpur did not get appointment letters as their names were included in the list of teachers in Dhemaji district.

"What is more, 18 teachers from Sibsagar were also deprived of the appointment letters as two schools were indicated against each of their names."

Referring to "such anomalies in the primary school teacher recruitment process on January 30, 2021", Santha general secretary Neog urged the authorities concerned to streamline the process.
