PM’s statement on anti-CAA protests unfortunate: Naba Sarania

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Independent MP from Kokrajhar Naba Sarania has termed the statement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the anti-CAA protest in foreign countries being fuelled by Pakistan as an insult to the people of Assam.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday Sarania said the people from different caste, community, religion, profession and artistes have come out from their homes to stage protest against the CAA. He said the CAA will make the Assamese people minority in their own land. “Under such circumstances Prime Minister’s statement is quite unfortunate and considered as an insult to the people of Assam,” he said.

“I have already told the Parliament that the government is trying to create a civil war like situation in Assam by enforcing the CAA,” Sarania said.

Sarania said the ruling BPF in Bodo Autonomous Council has supported the CAA since it will not be implemented in the BTAD areas. He said the BPF is also lending its support to the contentious Act to please the Centre to grant Union Territory status to BTAD.

The MP has cautioned that few forces are active to mislead the anti-CAA movement and the people must be alert against such forces.

Representatives of the Non-Bodo Surakshya Samiti, Assam who were also present at the press conference announced agitational programmes against the CAA in BTAD areas. The Samiti president Lalit Hemron said they will carry out a stir designed as ‘Public Shouting’ on December 18. From December 19, the Samiti will stage protest demonstrations and take out rallies in different places under BTAD.
