Police Officer Injured, Dragged In Traveller Vehicle For Miles

GUWAHATI: At an absurd incident in Jalukbari, a police officer was horrendously assaulted as a Traveller vehicle (AS-01 HC 5913), drove for quite a few meters, with the officer hanging on the windshields of the vehicle for dear life.

The incident occurred at 9.45 am on February 25, where the officer was reportedly ushering the vehicle driver away from a ‘No Parking’ spot. This enraged the accused Manoj Kalita, and he hit the officer who had to hold on the windshield of the vehicle for protection and then drove for a few miles, threatening the life of the officer.

Speaking to The Sentinel, DCP (Traffic) Prasanta Saikia said, “We will not spare any leniency towards erring drivers anymore. Such incidents are despicable and cause enough menace to the public as well as police officials. Discussions are under process with the enforcement departments and other concerned authorities to curb such careless flouting of rules and every motor vehicle will have to follow strict guidelines from now on.”

The incident has injured the police official and is currently under treatment. The owner of the vehicle is Vivek Patowary while a case (299/10 U/S 279/353/307 IPC) is registered against driver Manoj Kalita, who is currently under police custody.
