GUWAHATI: A team from Chandmari Police Station has busted a major financial scam worth over Rs 1.75 crore in Guwahati. Acting on an FIR, the police identified Kabita Baishya as the primary accused. She allegedly duped a victim’s family by promising a business partnership and showing fake gold, ultimately swindling them out of a significant amount. During a raid at her Jyotinagar residence, the police arrested Kabita Baishya and her son, Sourabh Baishya. Police seized substantial evidence, including 40 cheques worth Rs 5 crore, five pairs of fake gold bangles, six bank passbooks, four fake financial agreements, over 60 documents, jewellery receipts worth Rs 5 lakh, and two vehicles.
