GUWAHATI: Renowned publisher and editor Pradip Baruah will be conferred with the Dr Birendra Kumar Bhattacharya award 2020 on November 21.
The award will be presented by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at a special programme which be held at the Rabindra Bhawan in Guwahati.
The Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam will organize the programme where GDD Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley, Guwahati MP Queen Oja among others will be present.
The award will comprise Rs 2 lakh, a citation and an angabastra.
Pradip Baruah, son of Singhapurush Radha Govinda Baruah was born on September 30, 1938. After graduation he began his career as a journalist by joining the Assam Tribune. In 1966 he visited England to gain knowledge on modern printing technology. He took the sole responsibility to publish Bezbaruah Granthawali on the 100th birth anniversary of Rakharaj Lakshminath Bezbarua.
While being associated with printing work, he also started publishing literature books. In 1981, he started the Prantik magazine and worked as a publisher and editor. He also wrote a children's novel name Sandhaane which received the award of the Assam Publication Board.
