GUWAHATI: The Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam (PSSA) has demanded the Government to make its stand clear regarding the monthly pension, and filling up of vacant Grade IV posts for the Divyangjans before January 23.

"If the Government fails to keep on its promises then the PSSA will gherao the residence of State Finance Minister and later stage an indefinite hunger strike," stressed PSSA secretary NripenMalakar while addressing a press meet.

The disabled persons' body threatened to stage intense demonstrations if the Government doesn't accept their demands.

Malakar said, "The BJP government has been claiming to help the specially-abled individuals. Thus, this is the last warning from the PSSA to the Government to make its stand clear on our issues."

Malakar alleged that the State Finance Department is not willing to release Rs 1,000 monthly pension announced for the Divyangjans. "The Social Welfare Department sent a letter to Dispur to release Rs 48,18,36,000 for 1,60,612 Divyangjans for the month of October, November, and December. On December 16, the Directorate of Social Welfare wrote a letter to Dispur asking it to release Rs 24,95,00,000 for additional 19,139 beneficiaries. However, the Government didn't pay any heed and all those beneficiaries are being deprived," lamented Malakar.

The PSSA argued that the Government assured to fill up the Grade IV vacant posts reserved for Divyangjans within January 2021. However, it didn't keep on its promise.
