GUWAHATI: Village Rockstar's famed producer-director Rima Das has yet again shown how to make a film without established actors, barring seasoned Malaya Goswami in a guest appearance. This time around; she did a film of international repute with her next of kin.
The producer-director shared a lot of the nitty-gritty of her film, Tora's Husband, while releasing its trailer here today in the presence of the likes of co-producer Jaya Das, actor Pranjal Saikia, actor Chetana Das, actor Purnima Saikia Pathak, actor Purabi Sarma, film critic Bitupon Borbora, and film critic Manoj Borpujari. Despite screening at several international and national film festivals, Tora's Husband has yet to be released for commercial viewing in India. According to Rima Das, she has the plan to release the film for commercial viewing in India in August/September this year. Without taking the services of established actors, Rima Das availed herself of the talent latent in her brother, her brother-in-law, and their two children. The film depicts the impact of COVID-19 in society, including among relatives. She shot the film when COVID-19 was at its peak; thus, she could paint the true picture of COVID-19 and its impact on society.
The storyline goes around Tora's husband, who runs a small business. As a known affectionate husband and father, Tora's husband turns rude towards his relatives as a direct fallout of the COVID-19 impact. The film depicts the marked fallouts of the pandemic on society concerning the struggle for life and death.
Tora's Husband was in the world premiere show at the Toronto International Film Festival-2022, in the Asian premiere at the Busan International Film Festival, in the Indian premiere at the Kolkata International Film Festival, and in the Indian premiere at the Pune International Film Festival. All those associated with the film worked as a family to make the film a success. The film has got many accolades from international film critics. Rima Das' Village Rocktar bagged a national award. It was India's lone official nomination for an Oscar. Her other film, Bulbul Can Sing, was also a success at the international level.
The casts of Tora's Husband are Abhijit Das (Rima's brother), Tarali Kalita Das (brother-in-law) and Bhuman Bhargav Das and many others. Rima Das did the cinematography and editing of the film herself.
