GUWAHATI: The second Prof. Arun Chandra Das Memorial Annual Lecture organized by the Department of Political Science of Dakshin Kamrup College, Mirza, on “Anthropological Reflection on Population Composition of Assam: Some Relevant Issues” was held on Thursday. Dr. Dwipen Bezbaruah, Professor, Department of Anthropology, Gauhati University, joined the lecture programme as a resource person.

A tribute was given to Prof. Arun Chandra Das, who was the founder head of the Department of Political Science at Dakshin Kamrup College, at the beginning of the programme. After that, a lecture was delivered by Dr. Dwipen Bezbaruah. At the outset of his lecture, he shed light on the relationship between anthropology and political science and the significance of studying political anthropology before going to the main topic. Regarding the population composition of Assam, he beautifully explained the process through which the population of Assam was composed. He has argued that the history of population composition in Assam is the history of migration. In his lecture, he explained how people from different parts of the world of different origins (culture, race, language, and religion) have migrated to Assam since the pre-historic period, and through the process of assimilation, they have become part of the composite population of Assam. Manash Pratim Baruah, head of the Political Science Department of the College, was the moderator of the lecture programme, stated a press release.
