Protests At Last Gate on 4th day of Winter Session of Assam Assembly

GUWAHATI: On the fourth day of the Winter Session of Assam Legislative Assembly, various associations staged their protests upholding various demands at Dispur Last Gate, here in the city, on Tuesday.

The All Koch-Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) along with the Silarai Sena, staged a joint demonstration and submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Chief Minister of the State. Their demands include the re-creation of historical Kamatapur State compromising of 15 districts of Assam and 6 districts of West Bengal on the basis of the merger agreement on August 28, 1949. The Union also insisted on ST (P) status for the Koch Rajbongshis of Assam, recognization of Rajbongshi language in the 8th schedule, and preservation and promotion of the historical monuments and cultural aspects of the community in different parts of the country.

The All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani also staged dharna on Tuesday with the demand that since the Koch-Rajbongshis fulfill all the essential criteria of tribal community, they should be included in the sixth schedule of the Constitution and granted ST (P) status. They forwarded a memorandum to the Chief Minister of the State.

The Asom Sikshak Karmachari Aikya Mancha also protested and posed certain demands. They demanded that the 48,000 teachers and employees in the 8000 Venture Educational Institutions posts are provincialised.

The demand of the All Assam Gopal Mitra Association is that as per age, skills and educational qualification, the Gopal Mitras are given Government jobs and until that is done, training of the new batch of Gopal Mittras should be ceased. The Asom Anganbari Karmi-Sahayeka Sangstha demanded that the jobs of the Karmi-Sahayekas be regularized, their remuneration increased and promotion secured as per guidelines.

The Sodou Asom ‘ASHA’ Santha submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister with the demand that employees of ASHA are accorded recognition as Government employees. Other demands included to grant monthly salary of Rs 18000, to pay Rs 6000 as honorarium per month as an interim arrangement, to issue appointment letter to every ASHA, to provide ASHA Bhavan in every PHC and to stop increasing workload on ASHA.

The Asom Anganwadi Workers Helpers Union also protested upholding various demands at Last Gate on Tuesday.
