PSSA Submits Memorandum to Release Pension for Differently-Abled

GUWAHATI: Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam (PSSA) submits a memorandum to the Social Welfare Minister of Assam, Ajanta Neog urging the state government to release the pending pension for the differently-abled people of the state by May 31.

It is to be mentioned that, the state government provides a monthly pension of Rs. 1000 to these differently-abled people; however, from the past four months (January-April) the same have not been received.

Notably, earlier in April 28 2021, the Sangstha staged a sit-in protest outside the premises of the office of the Directorate of Social Welfare, Uzanbazar, Guwahati, followed by which the pension for the month of October-December 2020 was released but again the said pension stopped.

Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha's secretary Nripen Malakar said, "We urge the new government to look into the matter and release the pending pension latest by May 31, 2021."

Further the secretary said that along with the earlier record of the beneficiary, around 20,000 more people have been added, hence urged the government to provide the pension amount to these people also.

"As the COVID-19 pandemic has gripped the entire state, it's difficult for the differently-abled people to survive hence we request the government to release the pension," Malakar added.

On the other hand, the Sangstha also send a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam, urging the government to provide COVID-19 vaccination for differently-abled people at home. In the memorandum it stated, "As all our members belong to the physically challenged people, so we demand that the govt should initiate home to home vaccination for these people. Besides we demand that the govt must ensure providing of free mask, sanitizer and all other facilities for all persons of physically challenged not belonging to this category."

"If any untoward situation occurs in the future for failure or negligence on the part of the govt to fulfill our demands as stated, the govt will be made responsible for the same. We are very much optimistic that, as a dynamic Chief Minister of Assam you will take necessary steps to solve our problem," the memorandum added.
