
‘Government focusing on improving quality of life of people’

GUWAHATI: The Quality Council of India (QCI), with the support of Government of Assam, hosted the Assam Gunvatta Sankalp on Tuesday in the city to bring quality revolution at the doorstep of the citizens of Assam.
The event commenced with the inaugural session marked by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and launch of the Assam Gunvatta Sankalp video by Dr Lakshmanan S, Secretary, Industries, Commerce & PE Department, Assam in the presence of eminent dignitaries, including Jaxay Shah, chairperson, QCI; Dr RP Singh, Secretary-General, QCI; PR Mehta, chairperson, NABET and Rajesh Maheshwari, CEO, NABCB, among others.
The event also witnessed the exchange of an MoU signed between Quality Council of India (QCI) and Commissionerate of Food Safety, Assam, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Assam with an intent of improving the food safety ecosystem in Assam through creating quality infrastructure mechanism by intervention such as conformity assessment framework and infrastructure, training and capacity building of stakeholders etc.
The Assam Gunvatta Sankalp then featured four enlightening sessions, each addressing crucial aspects of Assam’s development in multivariate sectors, including Education and Skilling, Industry and MSME, Sustainable Agriculture, ONDC and Tourism, Culture, and Infrastructure. During the event, eminent speakers from diverse domains shared their valuable insights and recommendations. Paban Kumar Borthakur, Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, spoke on the relationship between ‘Quantity and Quality’ emphasizing that high-quality products and services can enhance a country’s economic growth. In the same manner, QCI’s efforts in areas such as quality certification, accreditation, and training can help improve the quality of products, services, and infrastructure in Assam, which in turn can have a positive impact on the State’s development.
Dr JB Ekka, Principal Secretary, Panchayat & Rural Development Department, explained how to improve the quality of life of the people of Assam, the government was focusing on the important areas such as healthcare, education, infrastructure development, job creation, environmental conservation, and social programmes that address the needs of the population. Dr Lakshmanan S, Secretary, Industries, Commerce & PE Department, Assam, while inaugurating Assam Gunvatta Sankalp, said, “Assam’s unique cultural heritage and vast potential have always set us apart, and today, as we embark on this journey, we do so with the determination to harness that potential to the fullest. The Gunvatta Sankalp isn’t just a pledge; it’s a promise to raise the bar in every aspect of our society, and we are committed to igniting quality revolution as a strong pillar for Assam’s growth.”
On the occasion, Jaxay Shah, chairperson of QCI, expressed his enthusiasm for joining hands with Awesome Assam to drive Quality Mission in the State. He said, “The Gunvatta Sankalp Initiative is our pledge to empower Assam with quality-driven progress. Assam’s untapped potential and the dedication of its people make it a vital force in India’s growth narrative and today’s launch of the Assam Quality Roadmap reaffirms the State’s commitment to excellence in quality development at the grassroots level.”
Abhijit Baruah, Commissioner of Food Safety, Assam, said, “The MoU between Quality Council of India and the Commissionerate of Food Safety, Assam, marks a significant milestone in our journey towards excellence in quality. Through this collaboration, we aim to further strengthen our efforts in upholding the quality and safety of food products in the State.”
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Om Prakash, Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha Assam, said, “Every child deserves quality education. In Assam, we are dedicated to making this a reality through the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. Our objective is to ensure that no child is left behind and that education reaches the farthest corners of our State.”
