GUWAHATI: The 'All Rabha Sahitya Sabha' (Bebak Rabha Kraurang Runchum) has urged the government to introduce the Rabha, Mising, Tiwa, Deuri, and Karbi languages as the mediums of instruction at the primary-school stage.

The Sahitya Sabha demanded, "The authorities must implement this before the commencement of the next academic session (2022-2023).

Informing this to the media, Rajkumar Rabha — the general secretary of the Sahitya Sabha — pointed out: "Notably, the Government of West Bengal has already introduced the Rajbongsi language at the primary-school level. The notification in this regard is on December 2021. If the Bengal government can take such a laudable step, what is stopping the Assam government?

"Though belatedly, the Government of Assam can still introduce Rabha, Mising, Tiwa, Deuri, and Karbi as the mediums of instruction at the primary-school stage in Assam."

Rabha further demanded, "There must be a separate policy for recruitment of tribal-language teachers. Moreover, there must be a special TET (Teachers Eligibility Test) to recruit Rabha-language teachers.

The president of the Sahitya Sabha posed, "We are disappointed as to why not even a single litterateur of the Rabha community was selected for the recently announced 'Literary Pension'.

"This is even though many litterateurs of our community are also contributing in the Assamese language. A few prominent Rabha litterateurs had applied for the position as per rules. But none figured in the list of the selected literary pensioners. A few of them are Amarsingha Koch, Prakash Rabha, Charu Mohan Rabha, and Duryodhan Rabha.

"We demand that the state government must also include Rabha litterateurs in lists of literary pensioners
