Rajya Sabha Poll: Candidates seal seats, results on Wednesday

GUWAHATI: With all the three nominations for the Rajya Sabha poll in Assam found valid after the scrutiny on Monday, the two ruling alliance and the lone combined Opposition candidates seem to have sealed their respective berths for the Upper House. However, the official announcement of the result can be made only after 3 pm on March 18 when the last date for withdrawal of candidature will be over, said Returning Officer Amarendra Narayan Deka. While the ruling alliance fielded Bhubabeswar Kalita of the BJP and Biswajit Daimary of the BPF, the Congress-AIUDF combine fielded senior journalist Ajit Kumar Bhuyan for the three vacant seats in the Elders’ House from Assam.
