Rank holders lay stress on quality education

GUWAHATI: While the two rank holders in the Science stream from Kamrup (M) want to pursue engineering, as many toppers from the Arts stream want to take Economics major. One of the three rank holders in Commerce from the city is nurturing the wish to run own business.

Fourth rank holder in Arts stream Debashree Bora of Cotton University (472 out of 500 with letters in English, Alternative English, Political Science, Economics and Logic & Philosophy) said while talking to The Sentinel, "I feel short of words to describe the pleasure I have. I never expected any rank. I did, however, expect over 90 per cent marks. I'm elated to get a rank. I didn't have hard and fast rule for reading. I read six to seven hours a day. I want to take Economics major in TDC. I'll stay put in Cotton University."

Debashree's father said, "I'm quite happy at the results of my daughter. She worked hard and got good results. We're not going to put any pressure on her career choice."

Sampurna Batsayan (5th rank holder in Arts) got 471 out 500 with letters in English, MIL (Assamese), Logic and Philosophy, Political Science, Economics and Education. She is from Asom Jatiya Vidyalaya, Guwahati. Talking to The Sentinel, she said, "I'm happy. The credit goes to my teachers, parents and all my family members. I tried to read seven to eight hours a day, mostly during the day. Along with the regular course, I studied novels and enjoyed music. I'll continue my study with Economics major in Cotton University."

Her parents said they would not exert any pressure on her career option.

Both rank holders in Science from Kamrup (M) want to be engineers. While Ayushi Kabra (6th from Sai Vikash Junior College) wants to pursue engineering having appeared in the JEE (main), Preetpal Bezbaruah (Third, also from Sai Vikash Junior College), wants to do research on engineering. He, a rank holder in the HSLC exam as well, said, "I'm happy. I didn't think of getting a rank. Regularity without in break in study flows well."

Simi Das of Gauhati Commerce College (9th) in Commerce stream secured 452 out of 500. Talking to this reporter, she said, "Everybody feels elated after performing good results. And I'm no exception. I never hankered after ranks. This time around there has been no joyous celebrations after HS results due to the corona pandemic. I've no regret for that. By study I do mean to understand the contents of our curriculum and to be equipped with them. I'm not mark-oriented. I give credit to my teachers, both of college and tutors, and my parents."

Her father said that her hard work paid off. "I'm elated to be able to provide her a reading ambience. I won't exert any pressure on her career choice," he said.

Nalini Jamar of NEF College and Sakshi Golchha of KC Das Commerce secured the 10th rank (451 out of 500). Sakshi said that she read 7-8 hours a day three months before the examination. She is interested in outdoor games, web series, TV serials and reading books, besides her college courses. Nalini said that she is happy to bring laurels to NEF College that had the first HS batch in 2020.
