GUWAHATI: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Assam Police was able to trace and freeze Rs 11 lakh in regard to an incident of cyber fraud in the state.
CID was working based on a complaint filed by a victim regarding an incident that led to a fraud of Rs 11 lakh. The victim was blackmailed to fulfil their demands, to which he made three RTGS payments amounting to Rs 11 lakh on June 9.
The CID contacted the nodal bank officers to trace the amount. The CID was able to trace two Yes Bank accounts to which the money was routed in parts. Taking immediate action, CID was able to freeze the entire fraud amount. The victim is a senior citizen and a pensioner, and it was reported that he became a victim of sextortion.
The CID, Assam, has asked the citizens to be vigilant and not share their OTP, CVV, pin, or passwords with any strangers or click on any links. Also, if any citizen is faced with any financial cybercrime, it is advised to call immediately at 1930 or register an FIR with the local police.
