Rs 270-crore irrigation scam: DCP (Crime Branch) to constitute Special Investigation Team

GUWAHATI: Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Guwahati Barun Purkayastha has assured the Gauhati High Court that he shall constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for investigation of Dispur Police Station Case No.1816/2011.

Purkayastha has also assured the Court that the investigation thus conducted would be supervised by him in every 4 days, so that speedy and effective. The court has also directed Director General of Police, Assam to ensure that Purkayastha is not disturbed in compliance of this order.

On March 2, then Deputy Commissioner of Police Jayant Singh was handed over the task of investigating the Rs 270-crore scam in the irrigation department. The case (1816/2011) was registered with the Dispur Police Station.

Purkayastha was directed by the Court to take over the investigation of the case following the transfer of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Guwahati (Crime Branch), Jayant Singh.

In this regard, on June 2, the Court had directed Purkayastha to remain present on the listing of the WP © Suo Moto 1/2019.

The list will take place on July 22 and Purkayastha shall file his affidavit detailing the steps taken in investigation of the case.
