GUWAHATI: The Commission set up by the State government for re-determining the boundaries of the Bodoland Territorial Region held its 7th meeting here on Friday.

During the meeting, the progress work of the Commission was reviewed.

Till the last date fixed for submission of representation for inclusion and exclusion of villages in/from BTR area, i.e. January 25, 2021, the Commission received a total of 3,196 representations for inclusion and exclusion of villages. Information contained in these representations is being computerized for further processing, stated a release. The villages relating to 1,044 representations have been identified and mapped and cases of these villages will be now scrutinized in the light of the guidelines indicated in the Memorandum of Settlement-2020. The population date for all these villages is being arranged for the scrutiny.

The Commission stated that as its term is to end on March 31 and also due to time limitation and the forthcoming Assembly election, it may not be possible to finalize its recommendations in time and as such extension of time may become unavoidable. The Commission has decided to deliberate on this issue in its next meeting which will be in March.
