GUWAHATI: Despite the State BJP's (Bharatiya Janata Party) claim of receiving support from the voters of the tea tribes, several leaders from the tea community joined the AJP (Assam Jatiya Parishad) here on Thursday.
The leaders joined the party at a meeting held in the presence of AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi at the party headquarters at Lamb Road, Ambari.
The new joinees include — All Assam Tea Tribes' Students' Association (AATTSA), Central executive member Ajay Tanti, AATTSA Tezpur district committee vice president Winston Sona, AATTSA Rangapani unit organizing secretary Pralay Yal, and All Assam Adivasi Students' Association Sonitpur district general secretary Prahlad Tanti.
Former NSUI State president Abdul Baten Sikdar and Patharkandi Mandal Congress president Haji Abdul Rab Choudhury also joined the party.
Addressing the meeting, AATTSA Central executive member Ajay Tanti vehemently slammed the State BJP.
He said, "The BJP believes that it has bought the entire tea community by providing assistance of Rs 3,000 to each tea worker,"
He exhorted to the members that the people of Assam are not being able to accept the current political scenario of the State.
"Whether it's the BJP or the Congress, both have been betraying the tea community," Tanti added.
