GUWAHATI: Few Congress MLAs are in touch with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership. This was disclosed by State BJP president Bhabesh Kalita. Talking to The Sentinel, Kalita said that few MLAs of Congress were in talks with the BJP. When asked if they would be joining the BJP, Kalita said, "Wait and see."

Recently, two Congress MLA – Rupjyoti Kurmi, MLA of Mariani LAC, and Sushanta Borgohain, MLA of Thowra constituency– joined the BJP.

The State BJP president exuded confidence that the BJP-led alliance would win the bye-election in all the six LACs. He criticized the Congress over the protests against the Dholpur incident. "The Congress remains silent when lives of indigenous Assamese people are lost but is quick to react when people belonging to a section are killed. This is how the Congress is distancing itself from the mainstream people of Assam," said Kalita. He reiterated that the Gorukhuti project would be implemented as it would lead to the development of the agricultural sector of the State and also open livelihood opportunities for the youths.
