Steps initiated to fill up vacant posts in Assam government, provincialized colleges

GUWAHATI: Owing to the high pass percentage in the High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLC and AHM) and Higher Secondary (HS) exam this year, students are facing problems getting admission into higher educational institutions across the State as there is shortage of seats in government colleges and provincialized and non-provincialized institutions. On the other hand, the posts of teachers lying vacant in these educational institutions has only compunded the crisis.

To tide over this crisis, the government has initiated steps to fill up vacant posts of teachers in colleges across the State. The Director of Higher Education has sought information from government colleges and provincialized institutions on faculty members and total intake capacity in departments within September 3, 2021.

As per information, there are 661 vacant posts of teachers in 166 provincialized colleges in the State. The Director of Higher Education has sought details of these vacant posts from these colleges within the first week of September.

On the other hand, the Department of Secondary Education has urged the Director of Secondary Education to expedite the process of upgradation of high schools to higher secondary schools. The Director of Secondary Education has also been asked to submit proposal for creation of necessary posts in the upgraded Higher Secondary schools. The existing vacancies and newly-created posts will be immediatley filled up as per rules and procedure.
