TAYPA, CYSA, AKRSU: Countrywide protests against Citizenship Amendment Act

Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI: The Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad, Assam (TAYPA); Chutiya Yuva Sanmilan, Asom (CYSA) and the All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) have said that the protest against the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) has been countrywide, let alone in Assam. They also said that there have also been protests against the Act abroad.

In a joint press conference at Dispur Press Club here on Sunday, they said that there was a protest against the CAB when it was first introduced, but the government opted to give a deaf ear to those protests. They said that if the police adopt the culture of guns and oppression to quell the protest against the CAA, the people of the State would be compelled to go for an armed struggle to get the Act scrapped. The three organizations, however, appealed to the people of the State to register their protest against the CAA only through peaceful and democratic ways.

TAYPA president Dilip Gogoi and working president Deveswar Baruah, CYSA general secretary Nipen Khanikar and AKRSU president Ratneswar Patowary spoke at the press meet.
