GUWAHATI: Tea Board India’s Zonal Office, Guwahati commemorated International Tea Day (ITD) 2026 through a series of programmes across the Northeast, focusing on sustainability, community welfare and youth participation in the tea sector.
Celebrations were organised under the theme “Sustaining Tea, Supporting Communities”, with activities held mainly in universities and colleges across the region. A programme at the College of Agriculture in Agartala was attended by Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, who highlighted sustainable practices and the welfare of tea workers.
Student competitions were organised at Royal Global University in Guwahati and North Eastern Hill University, while Jorhat hosted a cycle rally and events at Assam Agricultural University, where Padma Shri Jadav Payeng and pioneers of the small tea growers’ movement were felicitated.
