TERI Organized Bio-Toilet Meet At NEDFi Conference Hall

GUWAHATI: As a part of the initiative for demonstration of Bio-toilets in schools and dissemination of knowledge among students, the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), had initiated demonstration of Scientific Human Waste Management in 100 schools of 8 Northeastern states through installation of FRP make prefabricated anaerobic digester.

As a part of this initiative TERI organized a Biotoilet Meet for sharing the performance of the installed biotoilets and to share the users experience. Inaugurating the meet at NEDFi Conference Hall Minister of Water Resources, Science and Technology, Cultural affairs Keshab Mahanta highlighted the importance of quality sanitation and appealed experts to work for a solution for sanitation during flood. Mahanta said that Science and Technology department of Assam through ASTEC and TERI is going to sign a memorandum of understanding for collaborative activities in the state. Present in the meet as guest of honour Arup Kr. Mishra, Director, ASTEC said, “Talking about toilets and such related issues were under carpet in earlier time, now mental blocks are gradually being removed and we’re discussing it openly. It’s a very crucial matter that must be considered in a serious manner. In terms of the necessity of sanitation, we’re not yet able to reach out the remotest of the places. Instead of covering 100 schools, now we’ve to go for thousand of schools and to make people aware with new and fresh ideas.” He said, “Now it’s time that some people must think of hardcore research then only a all-round development is possible. A Biotoilet manual was also released in the event in the presence of many other scholars including Director TERI Dr. Dipankar Sahariya; Dr. SK Sinha, Dr. Soumya Chatterjee, scientist DRDO; Dr. Dinesh Chander Pant and many others.
