GUWAHATI: The theft cases in the State have surged at a steep pace and have doubled in the last decade. According to reports, 7,860 theft cases were registered in various police stations of the State in the year 2010. The number of cases saw an exponential growth in 2019 as 16,641 cases were registered.

While, 8,350 cases were registered in 2011, as many as 9,394 were registered in 2012. In 2013, a total of 10,692 cases were reported followed by 12,198 cases in 2014 and 12,024 cases in 2015. The police stations didn't see a decline in the number of cases as 12,846 cases were registered in 2016. The numbers crossed the 14,000 mark with 14,114 cases in 2017 and 15669 in 2018. On the other hand, State police stations registered 4,580 burglary cases in 2018 followed by 4,903 cases in 2019.
