Total 71 rape cases were registered under Guwahati Police Commissionerate in 2019

GUWAHATI: Guwahati, in 2019, saw an increase in rape cases than the previous year. A total of 71 rape cases were registered under the Guwahati Police Commissionerate in 2019. In 2018, 66 cases were registered. Out of the three police districts under the Commissionerate, East Police District Registered the highest number of cases, 35. Out of the 35 cases, 16 cases were registered in Dispur Police Station. Other stations that come under the district include Hatigaon PS (2 cases), Basistha PS (7cases), Bhangagarh PS (1 case), Khetri PS (2 cases) and Sonapur PS (7 cases).

West Police District recorded 15 cases. Under the district, Jalukbari PS and Gorchuk PS registered 4 cases each, Fatasil PS and Bharalumukh PS registered 3 cases each and Azara PS had 1 case. The Central Police District registered 21 cases out of which Paltan Bazar PS registered 5 cases followed by All Women PS with 4 cases. Chandmari PS and Geetanagar PS registered 3 cases each. Pragjyotishpur PS and Satgaon PS registered two cases each and Noonmati PS and Latasil PS registered 1 case each.
