GUWAHATI: The NF Railway has announced that the Old Saraighat Bridge will remain completely closed for all kinds of vehicular and pedestrian movement from 10:00 pm on August 9 to 6:00 am on August 10, to facilitate urgent repair work. According to the notification, traffic restrictions will be in place from 9:30 pm on August 9 until the work is completed, whichever comes earlier.
During this period, no vehicles or pedestrians will be allowed to cross the Old Saraighat Bridge from the Amingaon side, Kamrup. Emergency vehicles and light motor vehicles (LMVs) coming from Amingaon towards Guwahati will be diverted via the new Saraighat Bridge. Vehicles traveling from Guwahati towards Amingaon will follow their normal route, also using the new bridge. For heavy vehicles, including goods carriers, trucks, and dumpers, coming from Nalbari or Amingaon towards Guwahati, authorities have announced a diversion at Baihata Chariali via the Mangaldoi route. The new Saraighat Bridge will be temporarily adapted for two-way vehicular movement from both ends to manage the diverted traffic flow.
Officials have cautioned that since only the new Saraighat Bridge will be in operation for both directions of travel during the repair period, there is a high likelihood of traffic congestion along the bridge and its connecting roads. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance and make use of alternate available routes wherever possible to avoid delays.
