Training programme on Scientific cultivation of coconut held in Kahikuchi

GUWAHATI: A one-day training programme on “Scientific cultivation and management practices of coconut in Assam”, was held at ICAR-Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Research Centre, in Kahikuchi on Wednesday. A total of 102 farmers from various parts of Assam participated in the training programme. Scientist in charge of the center, Dr. Alpana Das briefed the participants about the importance of coconut cultivation in Assam and stressed controlling emerging pest problem, rugose spiraling whitefly. Other scientists of the center, Dr. Anok Uchoi, and Dr. LS Singh emphasized on the importance of adopting the different scientific method of coconut cultivation and to adopt different cropping models to increase income. The national awardee for best coconut cultivation Pankaj Das from Hajo, GVS Kamrup president Munindra Das, and RSETI faculty Pranab Sharma was also present at the program and encouraged the farmers to take up coconut as a profitable income crop. The programme was sponsored by ICAR-VPKVS, Almora, Uttarakhand under the North East program.
