Travel agent held for cheating in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Chandmari police on Monday arrested a travel agent named Angshuman Paul for allegedly duping a man of Rs 1.8 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad.

Paul operated a tour company called 'Visa Service and Discovery Tours and Travels' ostensibly from the Paltan Bazar area, but actually online.

Police sources said that Paul cheated a client, who wanted to travel to the United Kingdom, of Rs 1.8 lakhs in the name of Visa and flight ticket booking.

A case (23/2023 u/s 406/420 of IPC) has been registered at the Chandmari Police Station in this connection, the sources said, adding that around 12 other victims of Paul's cheating have also come forward now.
