GUWAHATI: The trial water supply system of the JICA project implemented in some areas in Guwahati under the Guwahati Jal Board (GJB) has been successful. Taking this into view, the water supply system of the existing Guwahati Municipal Corporation will stop soon in those areas where the drinking water supply system is available for domestic supply.
The Guwahati Jal Board has appealed to the people to avail of this facility immediately as the majority of the residents of the areas are yet to apply for drinking water connection under the new system.
The decision was taken at a meeting at Janata Bhawan with Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Irrigation Ashok Singhal.
Minister today held ten separate meetings with officials of various departments like Guwahati Jal Board, Mission Flood Free Guwahati, Urban Infrastructure Investment Programme, Directorate of Urban and Village Planning, GMC, GMDA, Irrigation etc., and reviewed various activities of these departments as well.
Many areas of Guwahati city got drinking water on an experimental basis under the 'JICA' project. After the success of this trial, drinking water is currently available for public use in such areas. According to the Guwahati Jal Board, these areas are from Bamunimaidam to Chandmari police station on Maniram Dewan Road, Rajgarh Road and East Sarania. AIDC premises from Zoo Tinali, Amiya Nagar, Amiya Nagar Hilltop bypass, Rudranagar, Piyoli Phukan Nagar, the area near Holychild School, Chandmari, Milanpur, Sarkari Chhapasal Road, Red Cross Road, Bhaskar Nagar Bypass 1-5, Vaikunthapur Road Bypass 1-3, Sahib Tila Path, Sahib Tila Path. Karbi Road, Shri Path, Ambikagiri Nagar Main Road & Bylane 1-4, Niribili Road, Milan Path, Pani Path, Monalisa Road, Nigazi Path, Kirtanghar Path, Kamala Path, Jyoti Path, Bimala Baruah Path, Bhavani Prasad Road, Bhavani Prasad Path 1-3, Nijara Path, Narokolbari Bylane, Neelam Path, Sampriti Path, Hem Barooah Path, Lakshmi Prabha Path, Nilgiri Path, Sagarika Path, Bhayamama Path, Surjit Gogoi Path, Rodali Path, Bishnu Path, Jyoti Path, Namghar Path, Jurani Path, Akashi Path, Triveni Path, Shankardev Shishu Kunjalay Path, Dhruvajyoti Path, Agali Path, Agali bylane 1-3, Suryadoi Path, Khuriram Path, Mandir Path, Mandir Path, Amar Path, Chinaki Path and Chinaki Path bylanes.
Minister Singhal, along with the officials of The Guwahati Municipal Corporation, today took stock of the progress of the Mukyamantrir Sahaj Griha Nirman Asoni. He directed officials concerned to take action following the law against those who provide false information and irregularities during construction in case of getting permission for the construction of houses under this scheme.
