GUWAHATI: A new Assam Bhawan, each with an attached Naamghar, will come up in New Delhi and Mumbai. The aim latent in this plan is to propagate the culture of the state among the whole lot of visitors to the Assam Bhawans.
Talking to the media today, GAD (General Administration Department) Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass said, "Two new Assam Bhawans will come up, one in New Delhi and the other in Mumbai. As the GAD Minister, I pleaded before the honourable Chief Minister to keep the provisions of naamghars attached to the new Assam Bhawans. Finally, Finance Minister Ajanta Neog announced the provisions of naamghars in the annual budget for the financial year 2025-26 yesterday. I thanked the Chief Minister and the Finance Minister. These naamghars, if they come up, will spread the Assamese culture to the outsiders at least to some extent."
Dass further said that the budget announced yesterday is a people-orientated one. The budget has announcements for financial aid for the naamghars of the state. Apart from this, the budget also announced financial aid for Udasin Bhakats (bachelor devotees) of xatras. Such provisions are set to help xatras and naamghars, he said.
Udasin bhakats are the ones handed over to xatras by their parents at the age of three to four years. Xatras bring such children throughout, and the children remain unmarried. Since such bhakats do not have families, they have to perform their shraddhas themselves while remaining alive.
