GUWAHATI: Assam Police recently arrested an Uber cab driver for allegedly assaulting a passenger, Mohd Abuzar Choudhary, in the city.

A co-passenger with Choudhary claimed that they had booked a cab for Kamakhya from Ahom Gaon. They had made the payment online, but the driver wanted cash. When they refused, the driver allegedly beat up Mohd Abuzar Choudhary with a rod and also made racist slurs.

In this regard, Uber has given an official statement. "What has been described violates Uber's code of conduct and has no place on the platform. We have removed the driver's access to the app and are in touch with the rider to provide assistance. We stand ready to assist law enforcement authorities and have informed the rider that he can avail trip insurance to cover medical expenses," read the statement.
