Veterinarian murdered in Guwahati city

A veterinarian named Khanjit Medhi was stabbed to death with a scooter key by one Subhash Basumatary at a restaurant called '77' in the Borbari area here on Saturday night.

GUWAHATI: A veterinarian named Khanjit Medhi was stabbed to death with a scooter key by one Subhash Basumatary at a restaurant called '77' in the Borbari area here on Saturday night.

According to police sources, other persons present during commission of the crime included the restaurant's owner Parameshwar Rajbongshi and Dhrubajyoti Das. The victim was conversing with Rajbongshi and Das when Subhash Basumatary appeared at the restaurant, where his mother Usha Basumatary works as an employee. The assailant started an argument with Rajbonghshi regarding some money owed to his mother. Basumatary then attacked Khanjit Medhi in the neck with a scooter key when the latter intervened in the dispute.

Medhi was immediately rushed to a private hospital where he was declared dead.

Basumatary later surrendered before the Dispur police.
