Guwahati: In a major political move ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, Congress MP and APCC president Gaurav Gogoi has announced that the party will intensify its campaign across the state, voicing the concerns of the people and challenging the BJP’s governance.
An Extended Executive meeting of APCC held in Guwahati on Sunday. The meeting was attended by APCC president Gaurav Gogoi, APCC incharge Jitendra Singh Alwar, state MPs and MLAs and executive members. The meeting took several political and economic resolutions, besides seeking proposals proposal the public in view of the 2026 Assembly election in the state.
Ahead of the meeting, talking to the media, Gogoi outlined the Congress party’s roadmap, terming it a crucial phase of political mobilization.
“We will discuss and finalize our roadmap for 2026. The political battle will be fierce, and we are preparing with full determination,” Gogoi said. He added that detailed grassroots feedback from recent outreach initiatives would be formally submitted to AICC Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh Alwar, who will brief Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
Significantly, Gogoi revealed that senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, will soon visit Assam to interact directly with the public. “Rahul Gandhi’s return visit will boost our campaign, while Priyanka Gandhi, impressed by the affection shown during her last visit, is particularly keen to revisit Dhubri,” he shared.
Taking aim at the ruling BJP, Gogoi accused the state government of suppressing dissent and manipulating electoral processes. “The BJP is fostering a climate of repression in Assam. The people will give them a befitting response. Congress is the party of courage and accountability,” he asserted.
He further raised serious concerns over alleged discrepancies in Assam’s voter lists and demanded a comprehensive debate in Parliament. “There are alarming irregularities. The Election Commission must come clean. We demand transparency and action,” Gogoi stated.
