Will resolve civic issues of masses, says Congress Candidate Mira Borthakur

GUWAHATI: Expressing confidence that the masses will surely vote for the INC (Indian National Congress) this time in West Guwahati, party candidate Mira Borthakur Goswami said on Saturday, "The electorates know that only the Congress can solve their age-old problems. I have also assured them of solutions to the civic issues that they have been facing all these years."

This LAC (Legislative Assembly Constituency) is going to the polls in the third and final phase slated on April 6. Interestingly enough, this seat is having the largest number of 15 candidates across the four LACs in Kamrup Metro. The other three LACs are Jalukbari, Dispur, and Guwahati East.

Of the 2,92,131 electorates in West Guwahati Constituency, 1,44, 645 are males; 1,47,478 females and eight transgenders.

Besides Mira Borthakur Goswami (Indian National Congress), the other candidates from this seat are: Ramendra Narayan Kalita (Asom Gana Parishad), Runa Laila (Assam Jatiya Parishad), Avijit Chakraborty (Bharatiya Gana Parishad), Kalyan Kumar Sarma (Republican Party of India-Athawale), Kishore Kumar Das (Loka Jana Shakti Party), Debakesh Malla Buzarbaruah (Janata Dal-United), Pankaj Das (Swarna Bharat), and seven Independent candidates — Amitabh Sarma, Kazi Nekib Ahmed, Dhananjay Kalita, Nesaruddin Ahmed, Baleswar Rongpi, Raktimava Swami, and Swapnali Das.

On her prospects, Mira Borthakur Goswami (Indian National Congress) told The Sentinel, "We are sure to garner all the anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) votes. Moreover, the masses will support us against the move of the government to sell various public assets. Even the Bodo populace living in Guwahati West Constituency is with us. They are supporting BPF chief and former chief of BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) Hagrama Mohillary."

The Congress candidate added, "Most of the people here are being still being deprived of piped drinking even though Mahabahu Brahmaputra is flowing beside the Constituency. We have plans to initiate strong steps to make drinking water possible for the masses.

Among the other plans on the cards if the Congress is voted to power, Mira Borthakur Goswami listed steps to protect and beautify the famed Ramsar-listed wetland — Deepor Beel; scientific management of the market places to keep them clean and hygienic; and also to make road communication easier and effective for the masses dwelling on the hills.
