Guwahati: The Agriculture Department of Assam organised a state-level workshop on Wednesday at the auditorium of the Assam Administrative Staff College in Khanapara, focusing on the implementation of various schemes.

Agriculture Minister Atul Bora said at the programme that the active participation and interest of the younger generation in the agricultural sector indicates a positive trend. In the new financial year, with a renewed commitment to progress, the government has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy to Rs 2,550 per quintal and for mustard to Rs 6,450 per quintal from April 1. Additionally, 500 high-performing Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) will be provided Rs 10 lakh each.

Furthermore, 100 selected villages will have agricultural centres equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) and drones, which will assist farmers in data-driven decision-making, increasing production, and enhancing sustainability. The minister also announced the introduction of the ‘District Mustard Campaign’ to support FPOs in purchasing mustard seeds for producing high-quality mustard oil. Participating districts will be required to create their own brands, and emphasis will be placed on establishing proper market linkages to ensure farmers benefit financially.

Moreover, to enable FPOs to access collateral-free loans, a proposal for a Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme has been included in this year’s budget. Minister Atul Bora urged officials to fulfil their responsibilities diligently to ensure the growth of the agricultural sector and the progress of farmers.

During the workshop, senior officials of the Agriculture Department held discussions with district agricultural officers regarding the diverse agricultural landscape across different districts.
