Youth with pistol caught while snatching a bag in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Two motorcycle-borne youths made an attempt to snatch a bag from a person near Railway Gate No. 7 at Bharalumukh in Guwahati around 7.30 pm on Wednesday. The person raised a hue and cry, leading the people nearby to capture one of the two youths. The youth captured by the public has been identified as Shakil Ahmed, hailing from Mangaldai. His accomplice, however, escaped.

The public handed Shakil over to Bharalumukh police, but not before bashing him up black and blues. The police recovered a pistol and five rounds of bullets from him.

Such incidents that have been occurring frequently in Guwahati and elsewhere in the State give an indication as to where the civil society in the State heading for? At a time when all concerned are elated to have seen a large number of rebels of various outfits laying down arms for giving peace a chance, a section of miscreants is slowly gearing up arms activities just to make easy money.
