Just In: CRPF Group Centre in Guwahati's 9-Mile Marked as 'Containment Zone'

Amid an unprecedented surge of Covid-19 cases across Assam, another area, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Group Centre in 9-Mile area of Guwahati city has been declared as a Containment Zone by the Kamrup (Metro) administration on Saturday.

Kendriya Vidyalaya CRPF to the North, Doctor's Residences and barrack number 6 and 7 to the South, Amerigog Hill side to the East, and staff quarters to the West have been marked as the extremities of the newest containment zone in the city. The district administration's order marking the area as a containment zone, came into effect at 2 pm, and will remain in place until further notice.

The Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu, making this announcement via a notification, said that this step has been taken in view of the of the detection of 6 Covid-19 positive patients at CRPF Group Centre, 9th Mile in the Kamrup Metropolitan district, in the interest of maintenance of public hygiene and to prevent further spread of Covid-19 virus in the said area."

Pegu further warned that any unauthorized entry and exit into the notified containment zone will be barred "till the area is declared safe as per guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare." Furthermore, the administration has instructed that the social distancing norms shall be strictly enforced in the marked area.

"Any violation of this order will attract action under the provisions of The Assam Covid-19 Regulations 2020, The Disaster Management Act-2005, The Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 and other relevant laws of the nation", the communique further said.

It is pertinent to mention here that the number of Covid-19 cases in Assam have now surged to 329 with the detection of ten additional cases: 4 from Morigaon, 2 from Nalbari, and 1 each from Nagaon, Hojai, Golaghat and Jorhat, as informed Assam Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
