A ‘Tempting Asset’

It is indeed unfortunate that most of the major political parties of India should be thinking of the Bangladeshi voters as ‘tempting assets’. Most political parties are unable to entirely overlook the murky possibility of getting certain illegal procedures activated at high speed not for any laudable national goals but rather for the benefits that large vote-banks bequeath on aspiring politicians with zero performance but high levels of misplaced ambition. Let no one attempt to pretend that they are unaware of the illegality of including the names of foreign nationals in the electoral rolls of the State. Our politicians seem to have evinced remarkable success in the speed at which they have managed to get the names of foreign nationals included in the electoral rolls of the State. Are we obliged to pretend that we were unaware of the illegality of this undertaking? Are we also obliged to pretend that we are unaware of the fact that much of what has been happening in respect of the unlawful and anti-national undertaking was possible without the active help and connivance of our bureaucrats? It is impossible for the large-scale inclusion of the names of foreign nationals in the electoral rolls of our State to have been done without the knowledge and tacit consent of our bureaucrats. And they get paid from the State’s exchequer for protecting the integrity of the State—not for turning foreigners into Indian voters at high speed.
