A Time for Licensed Arms

The killing of 14 people and wounding of 17 others in San Berrdino (California) on Wednesday by Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik with two  assault rifles and two semi-automatic handguns takes the tally of such mass shootings in the United States to 352 for this year.  Apart from the identity and motives of Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife Tashfeen, and the fact that they just went home from a holiday get-together of their colleagues and returned wearing bullet-proof clothing and four firearms to shoot their fellow-workers, what is perhaps important is that the Pakistani origin of Farook gives the latest mass-killing in the US a terrorist angle also. However, the most important issue is the existing policy of allowing people in the US to buy firearms without the need for any licences. The easy availability of firearms is often the main reason why the country has so many mass-killings of innocent people. It is reassuring to learn that US President Barack Obama has called  for gun reforms in the US.
