Accident prone road

Accident prone road

The Convoy Road, now Tarun Ram Phukan Road is one of the busiest thoroughfares of Dibrugarh. This road has proved to be accident prone one in the wake of a number of fatal accidents that resulted in deaths of a good number of people. Two major car dealers, Maruti Suzuki and Honda are located in this road and a good number of car accessories and car washing centres are sprouting. The car washing centres are located just by the side of the footpath and it is experienced that when a pedestrian walks along the footpath, some sprinkle of water touches him/her and in case the person is careless he/she is sure to get drenched. Needless to add, the front of the car dealers are fraught with cars of different sizes. Similarly, in front of the accessory shops and car washing centres, cars are parked indiscrimitely causing great inconvenience to the passersby. Another point of congestion is in front the Don Bosco School, particularly at the time when the school gets over in the afternoon. Incidentally, the most gruesome accident I have seen in my life was the one when two brilliant commerce students of the Salt Brook Academy were knocked down by a speeding car that resulted in their instant death.

All this is not to suggest the closure of the dealers, accessories or car washing centres; what we suggest is the constant monitoring by the traffic police. Completion of construction of the footpath throughout the length of the road, freeing the same from car washing centres will certainly ease movement of the commuters. The road requires a bit widening, too.
