Apathetic Central government

As the devastation caused by floods in Assam is assuming an alarming shape with death toll reaching 76, affecting more than 40 lakh people of 28 districts, leaders like H.D. Deve Gowda – former Prime Minister – showing sadness and sympathy to the people of Assam and the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama writing a letter to the Assam Chief Minister expressing solidarity with the flood victims it is surprising to note that no such sympathetic attitude towards Assam in this hour of crisis was shown by our Union government. On earlier occasions also we did not notice that much of concern to the flood-victims shown by our Union government. In releasing the fund too there was always a delay and the fund released fell far short requirement. We can understand well that our governments, be it at the Centre or in the State, are obsessed with COVID-19 but the flood victims too deserve attention.
