Assam Police Day

The Assam Police Day has been celebrated on October 1. It has a fascinating history from the Ahom bygones and milestones. The CM has praised its exemplary services for the interest of more than 3.3 crore population of the State. Uniformed personnel have been a saga of indomitable courage, devotion and supreme sacrifice for good deeds. They must uphold it by selfless service for the masses. But it failed to woo the trust of the public. Despite fighting against insurgency, maintaining of peace and safeguarding the lives and property of the people by the few seventy thousand police forces, citizens face unhappy experience. Sometimes an officer on duty acted as oppressive dictatorship under alien administration and refused to register an FIR on flimsy ground. Police carries discretionary authority and must be accountable towards the welfare of a state. A few incidents may unfairly stain their reputation but with dedication and transparent decision making it can rebuild their image with the changing circumstances.
