Cash Crunch in ATM

The Union Government is yet to wake up to the enormity of the situation confronting the ATM imbroglio. It transpired from a report published in a section of the print and electronic media that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has stopped printing of the Rs 2,000 denomination notes. That apart, it is also learnt that certain agencies are hatching a conspiracy to destabilize the economy as alleged by the Centre. It is not understood why the Centre could not take any efficacious step to ensure availability of adequate cash in ATM, despite the fact that quite a good number of days have elapsed since the beginning of the non-availability of cash.

It is learnt that the Ministry of Finance, meanwhile, has taken the matter with all seriousness and that hopefully the imbroglio would be over very soon. Our question is, why the Central government could not anticipate such a grave situation, and then when the situation surfaced, why it could not be brought under control immediately. Needless to add, such apathetic notion lowers the image of the Union government as it is the commoners who are immensely affected.

Ashok Bordoloi,

Indians Excel

in World Sports

It is a matter of pride that our sports persons, especially women, have done an excellent job in the Commonwealth Games held at Australia. The dedication and determination of these players helped pave their paths to success. Their hard work should serve as an eye-opener for the rest. Our sports persons must improve further to win more medals in Olympic and other international events. Our women are certainly emerging as a force to reckon with in the arena of sports. The medal winners, men or women, should inspire Indian youth to take up games other than cricket. The government must support all sports so that India performs credibly at the international level.
