Commendable Performance

From being chronic losers in the past, the Assam Ranji Trophy team has shown fantastic performance in recent times. The latest feather in its cap is the act of winning by a margin of five wickets against seven-time champions Delhi in a Group A match on Wednesday. With this remarkable victory, Assam has moved up to the second place with 22 points from six matches against Delhi’s 24 points from seven matches. When Assam maged to secure a six-run lead over Delhi in the first innings, most people probably thought that the team might go for a draw to win points just for a first innings lead. But the skipper had better ideas. He got the Delhi team out for a low score in the second innings as well and got his team to score the required runs for victory in good time and with five wickets to spare. It was a remarkable team effort, with bowlers, batsmen and fielders all performing at their best. And what happened with Delhi was the icing on the cake after a series of splendid victories earlier. We know now that we have quite a few bowlers like Krish Das and Arup Das and batsmen like Rahul Hazarika who can make the most of the opportunities that come their way in the days ahead. We now have dedicated players not afraid of putting in that extra bit of hard work to excel. Perhaps the change in the stewardship of the Assam Cricket Association with the removal of the earlier secretary has also made a difference to the morale of the team. We look forward to more opportunities for our players and can count on their doing much better than they had been doing in the past. We look forward to seeing some of them in our tiol team.
