Deendayal controversy

The ongoing controversy over ming some model colleges after Late Pandit Deendayal Upadhaya in some districts of Assam is immaterial. Till a few days back, most of the leading news channels telecast the news where a few so-called intellectuals, mely Dr Hiren Gohain, Akhil Gogoi etc., condemned the BJP government vociferously.

Even the Congress entered the fray by criticizing the government’s decision. But while the Congress was in power they didn’t spare any institution, airports, stadiums, reserve forest, tiol parks, and government schemes from ming after one family. For example, the stadium in Guwahati was the brainchild of Late R.G. Barooah but the then Congress government med it Nehru Stadium, though later on it was remed as R G Barooah Sports Complex.

Another example is Orang tiol Park, which is med after Rajiv Gandhi. Even Sarusajai stadium is med after Indira Gandhi. The above instances are just the tip of the iceberg. But then, nobody opposed the move due to reasons best known to everyone. The likes of Dr. Hiren Gohain and company never uttered any word.

One would welcome the decision of ming the model colleges after the famous persolities of Assam. But at the same time, those med after one particular family (Nehru/Gandhi ) need to be remed too. The Congress leaders’ culture of worshipping a particular family has resulted in losing so many worthy sons and daughters of the soil into oblivion.
