Difficult time

The country is passing through a difficult phase. Yes, there have been some faults with the government including the failure to gauge the emerging situation despite repeated warning from the global health authorities. But then, this is not the time to find faults and blame the government. Rather, this is the time for every good citizen to act in a responsible, constructive and positive manner. Criticizing the government at this hour is not going to help improve the situation. The government must have already realised its mistakes. The second wave of the pandemic has come in a big way. As on April 28, India has accounted for nearly one in every four deaths in the world due to coronavirus. The pandemic is challenging India in ways one could never have imagined. This is a difficult time, but it is just that — a time. While staying at home, using a mask covering the mouth and nostrils, frequently washing hands and maintaining physical distance continue to be the four golden rules to protect oneself from the virus, it is also important for the people to remain mentally positive during this difficult time. Simultaneously, it is also imperative that every person get the two doses of vaccination. There are certain categories of people who do not contribute anything positive to the society except working overtime spreading falsehood, unwanted criticism, cynicism, demotivation and negativity. True that such people are a few in numbers, but then they cause damage to society by spreading their ill-motives through social media. Social media is currently full of posts by this category of people who have never ever contributed positively to the well-being of the society by planting a sapling, asking a common man not to spit, or cleaning the drain in front of their house. The country and the society do not need such people at this crucial juncture. The country needs such people who can contribute positively and in a constructive manner towards arresting the spread of the virus.
