Do justice to TeT teachers

Do justice to TeT teachers

As days roll by, the double-standard maintained by the State BJP-led government in respect of employment is coming to the fore. Perhaps just one issue is enough to drive home our contention. It we take into account the fate of the TeT qualified teachers who had been appointed after they had passed the tough examination. A time was there during the Congress regime when the posts of the teachers were sold like hotcakes. Fortunately (?) for us almost all the schools of Assam are manned by such teachers who are not at all competent to teach — although not exclusively. Now that there are TeT teachers manning the schools side by side the senior ones, it brings relief to the senior ones in solving problems. As far as we know, these senior teachers with their fat salary rush to the TeT teachers for anything relating to administration/academy. Whenever any correspondence (circular) is received in English, the TeT teachers come to the rescue of the senior ones. We, all the conscious citizens extend our whole hearted support to the agitation of the TeT teachers. Incidentally, we add that when the TeT tests were conceptualized, we heaved a sigh of relief that at least the dirt polluting the shabby academic atmosphere would vanish. Moreover, compelling all the TeT qualified teachers appointed since 2012 to again appear in the fresh TeT tests sounds unrealistic. It seems, as if the present incumbent at the helm of affairs questions the integrity of those appointed by his predecessor, Himanta Biswa Sarmah. Is it not like belittling him? Our appeal to the present incumbent is to allow the brilliant teachers to work without fear of losing their job and with relevant pay scale and thereby demonstrate that the BJP-led State government is not really maintaining double-standards in solving the unemployment problem.
