Eyesore

After a lot of uncertainty and expectations, the Olympic Games kicked off in a glittering opening ceremony in Tokyo. All the sports-loving people of the world were eagerly waiting for this magnum opus. The marching ceremony of the participating teams was simple. The smartly dressed Indian athletes led by Hockey captain Manpreet Singh and Mary Kom marched brilliantly. The only eyesore was when the TV screen was split to accommodate Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur which resulted in less screen space for the viewers to enjoy the glorious moments of Tokyo. The Minister's clip should have been avoided.

RSS baiters

On July 21, RSS chief Mohan Bhagawat came to Guwahati and attended a programme at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra. In his speech, he raised the thousand-year-old history, culture and tradition that is second to none.

After hearing Bhagawat's lecture which was true to the last word, I believe the Sanatani would feel proud to be a Hindu, a religion that was not spread by swords. He also touched on some salient points about the CAA, which some few pseudo-secularists and hardcore jatiyabadi persons are using as a tool to fulfil their political interests. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in his usual style in chaste English also spoke in a very way which some of the pseudo-secularists should analyse if they are honest and patriotic. The latest outbursts of Kaliabor MP Gaurav Gogoi, a constituency mainly dominated by linguistic minority community on whose support he won the Parliamentary election against the RSS, is very natural because if he had remained silent his loyal voters would have got offended on him and in the long run would cost him dearly.

We also understand his limitations about Assam's history and culture. He should know the roles played by the RSS during the partition time in the then undivided Bengal and Punjab.

Sterling Mirabai

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu bags India's first medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. She also becomes the only Olympic silver medalist from Northeast India. India and especially Northeast India is beaming with joy at her success at the grand event. The Northeast has a sea of talents, but many of these talents have withered away because of a lack of facilities and infrastructure. With this silver medal, Chanu has opened the door to the talent pool of the Northeast. I urge the Union Ministry of Sports to hold out a hand towards the Northeast. Once again, congratulations to Mirabai Chanu, we are proud of her and wish her more such accolades in the future.

Rising LPG prices

Through your esteemed daily, I would like to express my concern regarding the surging price of LPG. In Assam, a single LPG cylinder is costing Rs 900 approximately.

The pandemic has already made people suffer a lot as the majority of the working class have lost their jobs. The frequent increase in the price of cooking gas is causing additional trouble to the common people. So, I urge the government to take immediate measures in curbing the price of LPG so that it becomes feasible.

Man's best friend

Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I would like to express my anguish over the condition of man's best friend, that is, dogs.

A post on Twitter recently stated an incident that took place in JP Infra Road, Mira Society, Mumbai. According to the Twitter page, the perpetrator(s) first chopped off both paws of the puppy and then cut its body into two halves. The page (streetdogsofbombay) has also requested and mentioned leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Ministers concerned in their post and asked them to take necessary actions against such acts of cruelty on animals.

The famous Bollywood actor John Abraham has been continuously showing his concern through his Twitter handle to bolster the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals (PCA) Act by our Prime minister. On July 18, the actor tweeted "PCA Act was enacted in 1960 but has not been amended ever since. Animals have suffered far too long because of weak laws. Heinous crimes need to be made non-bailable. @narendramodi Ji @PRupala Ji pls amend strengthen PCA Act in this monsoon session of parliament #NoMore50".

The actor is being a responsible human by putting forward his concern over the laws which were passed long before but have not been implemented yet.

The cruelty and harsh behaviour they face is incorrigible.

They are the ones who safeguard the locality from thieves, dacoits and any other kind of mishaps. We as human beings are unique because we can think rationally, yet we become the most inhuman with the ones who cannot express their feelings verbally.
