It is heartening that the Assam government led by the dymic Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal has signed 200 MoUs worth Rs 1 lakh crore with various companies for investment and development. This is the first of its kind in Assam. Such huge investment can prove to be a game-changer because Assam has been crying for such investment for a long time and it is due to lack of such investment that the State has lagged behind in development.

Perhaps the most important aspect of such investment is the generation of employment. Assam ranks among the States where the problem of unemployment is chronic. Many unemployed youth have taken to violence due to unemployment. When they are unemployed they feel that the shortcut of violence is the best option as it provides them with at least some means of livelihood. Therefore, employment generation can go a long way in preventing the youth of the State from taking to the undesirable path of violence.
We hope that with such investment coming in and with the Sonowal government evincing a lot of interest in doing development works, the problem of unemployment will be solved to a large extent and peace will ultimately prevail.

ga Agreement
There are rumours that the Government has India has entered into a secret agreement with NSCN-IM for the resolution of the vexed ga issue. Such rumours have led to fears in Assam that some territories of this State might be given away to galand for the sake of peace in galand and to help NSCN-IM realize its goal of a greater galand or galim. Such fears are not unfounded. Even otherwise, ga encroachers have grabbed large tracts of land in the Golaghat area of upper Assam. Assamese people who live in such areas are under the constant fear of being attacked by armed ga groups. The Government of Assam has done little to come to the rescue of these helpless people.
We request the pro-active Sarbanda Sonowal government to urge the Centre to make the ga agreement pact public so that the people of Assam may be aware of the contents of the agreement and whether the agreement is only for the sake of galand and against the cause of Assam. Earlier, Union Home Minister Rajth Singh had said that there would be alteration in the boundary of Assam. If this is true, there is no problem. But if it is otherwise, then we have the right to know the contents of what is actually going on between the Government of India and NSCN-IM.
