Inclusion of Rohingya Migrant in NRC

Inclusion of Rohingya Migrant in NRC

Some sections of the media have reported about inclusion of a Rohingya migrant, particularly, “12 year Cachar ‘resident’ arrested - Rohingya in draft NRC” appearing in The Telegraph dated 22nd July 2019, “Rohingya in NRC, now cooling heels in jail” in The Sentinel dated 22nd July 2019, and “Jaal nathi! NRCte naam Rohingi Alamer” — in Dainik Jugasankha on 21st July 2019. These media reports have referred to one person named Alam Hussan Mazumdar who has been arrested in Cachar recently on various charges and has been mentioned as an illegal Rohingiya migrant. In this connection, it is clarified that this news is absolutely false as the said Alam Hussain Mazumdar was not included in Draft NRC on account of being found ineligible in family tree verification and for submitting forged birth certificate. These media reports appeared to have been published without any verification from NRC authorities about his inclusion in Draft NRC. This clarification is being issued as these kinds of irresponsible false reporting based on unverified information have the potential of casting aspersions on the purity of NRC Update exercise currently underway in Assam. Public are requested not to believe in such baseless stories and continue to keep their trust on the exercise.
